Entwinements (Here in the Field We Never Knew)

Here in the field we never knew

I never fell in love with you

Here in the field we never found

We buried nothing in the ground

This song started with two prompts, written, as follows:

> write a song based on a random word: entwinement

> write about a place you’ve never been: the field where we never met

I opened the file tonight, looked at them, and picked up my harp, which has been greatly ignored lately. This is what came. The simple harp accompaniment is played by me. This is a two-track piece – voice/harp and harmony.

It’s kind of a sad song for something that wasn’t even a thing.

Lyrics

Here in the field we never knew

I never fell in love with you

Here in the field we never found

We buried nothing in the ground

Where you walked upon my heart

Where I saw you when it started

I’ve always asked what I would do

And now I’m frightened that I knew.

Entwinements

Misalignments

Our voices never raised to fight

Entwinements

Misalignments

Our silence never struck the night.

This is the field we never walked

Our lot was cast, we never talked.

Upon the field, we never met

Gave up no joy and no regret.

There’s a place we never knew

Where I had never been with you

A field of white, unburdened snow

Its blinding glare the brightest woe.

Entwinements

Misalignments

We’ve never done what we were told.

Entwinements

Misalignments

The dawn is coming but is cold

Entwinements

Misalignments

So many sorrows in my soul

Entwinements

Misalignments

And so many miles to go
