Waiting for the Green Line

Waiting for the Green Line

I was waiting for the green line

You came out of the blue

Screaming into the station

I was thinking of something

Making lists in my head

Watching the birds

And the dirt

and the snow instead

I wasn’t looking for you.

I was playing with chords and progressions and this was a set that just made me really happy. I don’t use 6/8 time very often, so I decided to play with the time signature as well. When I tossed in some drums, I was thinking of Boston, the city of my heart. And of course, the MTBA. So why not a reluctant love story as well?

I think this would be a fun one to do with an actual band someday. (The levels are a little wonky but I grew a bit exhausted fussing with it.)

Lyrics

I was waiting for the green line

You came out of the blue

Screaming into the station

I was thinking of something

Making lists in my head

Watching the birds

And the dirt

and the snow instead

I wasn’t looking for you.

You push me like a turnstile

Spinning

I cannot see

I get so turned around

Darling when you’re with me

We know nobody rides for free.

Is that that the red line rumbling?

Can you hear my heart out here?

Pounding out in the station?

I was trying to remember

Where I was meant to go

The bright colored lines

And the signs

And the people moving so slow.

How could you just appear?

Tell me Charlie?

Tell me Charlie?

What’s the big delay?

You push me like a turnstile

Spinning, I cannot see

I get turned so around

Darlin when you’re near me

And nobody rides for free.

Is that that the red line rumbling?

Can you hear my heart out here?

Pounding // out in the station?

I was trying to remember

Where I was meant to go

The bright colored lines

And the signs

And the people moving so slow.

How could you just appear?

You push me like a turnstile

Spinning, I cannot see

I get turned around

Darlin when you’re near me

…we know nobody rides for free.

I was waiting for the green line

You came out of the blue.
