Can I
fly?
Will I
Magnify?
Racing
Night sky
I fall
Spark
Can you
Feel me
Out there
Reeling
In the
Dark

“Imagine you’re floating in space. Write a song about how you imagine that to feel.”
The images I found in this prompt –stepping out, the float, in orbit, a planet spinning so quickly by, the light on gold foil, the small sounds of thrusters, the distant song of the stars. Fragile, beautiful, terrifying, joyful, bright, dark…spark.
What precious thing would I bring out there, I wondered? One of the most precious commodities on earth in ancient times was salt, and I realized that I would bring to space what I have spent so freely this year –tears. Perfect, clear, round tears freezing in the vacuum, falling forever in no particular direction.
I have never created a song like this, so orchestrated and arranged. In the scheme of things, it took absolutely ages (three days!) but it somewhat hits my vision. I would like to get better at creating music this way.
Can I
fly?
Will I
Magnify?
Racing
Night sky
I fall
Spark
Can you
Feel me
Out there
Reeling
In the
Dark
Spark
Spark
Breath and heartbeat
Cast out from the egress
In the silence
Ancient lights confess
Fail-ing friction
Memory slips away
What salt I have with me
Is the salt I carried
In my tears
Can you read me dears?
Did I
fly?
Did I
Magnify?
Racing
Night sky
I fell
Spark
Can you
Feel me
Out there
Reeling
In the
Dark
